The judicial service commission has recommended one lawyer and 10 new judges for appointment to the Court of Appeal.
The recommended persons are
- Lawyer Imaana Laibuta
- Msagha Mbogholi
- Aggrey Muchelule
- Pauline Nyamweya
- Francis Tuiyott
- Hellen Omondi
- Weldon Korir
- Joel Ngugi

- George Odunga.
JSC had earlier shortlisted 22 judges and 13 advocates for the interviews that took place from June 17 to 27 and out of the 22 judges, the 10 were seen fit for the position and Dr. Laibuta was the lucky one out of the 13 shortlisted advocates.
The announcement which was made by Chief Justice, David Maraga during a press briefing in Nairobi yesterday was met with resentment from Law Society of Kenya representative Macharia Njeru. Njeru argued that the JCS should have at least appointed two lawyers instead of one.
The court of appeal, which is the second-highest court next to Supreme Court had fallen short of judges as it had only 19, 11 judges less to the required 30.
Some of the senior judges including Alnashir Visram and Erastus Githinji are also set for retirement this year.
The recommended names will be forwarded to President Uhuru Kenyatta for final approval and appointment.
