Have you been sending out tweets or Facebook posts with images of the Kenyan currency? Well, you will soon be arrested.
The Central Bank of Kenya has issued a statement, to warn those who have been using images of Kenyan currency for publication without permission.
According to CBK, any person who wishes to use cash or cash images for publication or for any other purpose has to apply to the Central Bank of Kenya in written.
“No person shall use cash or images of cash, current or history for publication or promotional or for any other purpose other than currency without permission from the Bank,” said CBK in an announcement that really many people didn’t know it exists.
Do you want to use images of the Kenyan currency for publication or promotional or any other purpose other than currency? Well, here is what you have to do:
- Sit down and take a piece of paper
- Write a letter to the CBK
- State your name
- State your nationality
- State your purpose of wanting to use the images
- Declare that the use will not infringe on CBK’s copyrights.
After writing the letter to the CBK, sit down and relax because it will take the Bank 14 days to get back to you in “written”. 14 good days. If you are in a hurry, use the dollar.
The decision given by the Bank after 13 days is “final.” In the event they say “No” it will be NO and you will, under no circumstance publish images of the Kenyan currency.
Now, what if you go ahead and publish images of the Kenyan currency without the permission of the CBK? My friend, you will charged 100,000 shillings and 10,000 shillings per day on any extra day the image remains online.
