Ken Okoth Returns after 5-Month Cancer Treatment in France

Ken Okoth, Kibra MP, appeared first in public on 7th July after five months of being in France where he has been receiving treatment for colorectal cancer.

Okoth attended the annual Kibra Music Fest, which has been happening yearly for over a decade now, at Moi Girls School, Nairobi.

Okoth was also in the presence of Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja who later took to Twitter to applaud Okoth’s strength and determination which he termed as an inspiration.

“Joined my brother Ken Okoth and the people of Kibra for an exciting Music Festival earlier today. Welcome back home bro and thanks for the amazing job you and your team have been doing. Your strength and your determination inspire us all,” Sakaja wrote.

Ken Okoth was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer in February 2019 which has made it difficult to be eradicated and unto which the MP said he is managing it in a reply to one of Twitter followers, in his words “Napambana na hali yangu (I’m managing my condition) and we shall overcome.”

Over 63 Members of Parliament Out of Country in Search of Cancer Treatment

Okoth is not the only legislature seeking cancer treatment as a few months ago, Juja MP Francis Waititu came back to the Country from India where he had been for treatment and revealed that thousands of Kenyans were stuck in India seeking cancer treatment and over 60 of them were Kenyan legislatures.

“I met hundreds of cancer patients from Kenya alone. Among them were nine of my fellow MPs and four Senators. The cancer scourge is enormous and we can no longer afford to bury our heads in the sand. We must get out and talk about it,” Waititu said.

Waititu revealed a fact the Government continues to cover and ignore, that its largest population is getting lost to cancer and a majority of which spend nights on India’s streets awaiting treatment as housing there is unaffordable to them.

“The situation is serious. We have for example about 63 MPs and thousands of other Kenyans suffering from cancer. We must get out and talk about it boldly,” Waititu said.

Waititu had met nine legislators and four senators in person during his treatment period in India.
