60 people have been confirmed dead and 70 others critically Injured on Saturday after a petroleum truck overturned and burst into flames in Msamvu in Morogoro Tanzania.
The accident happened on Saturday morning with a huge ball of fire engulfing hundreds of people who had rushed for free fuel.
Majority of those who died and injured were motorcyclists who rushed to the accident scene to collect the leaking fuel for their motorcycles.
Food vendors and business people along the Dar es Salaam – Morogoro Riad were also caught in the fire with authorities taking too long to respond.
The Regional Police Commander for Morogoro Mr. Wilbroad Mutafungwa confirmed that 60 people were burnt beyond recognition.
The death toll is expected to go up given the degree of burns for most of the victims who are admitted in various hospitals.
