Gor Mahia has parted ways with Dennis Oliech after the club announced that his contract got terminated following serious misconduct and absenteeism.
The Kenya Premier League champions arrived at this decision after Dennis Oliech missed most training sessions without consent from the club’s officials and persistent disciplinary offenses.
The Kenya all-time goal scorer was seen off by Gor Mahia after only one season and had scored only six goals since joining the club in January 2019 for a two-year contract.
“In pursuance of the provisions of Clause 6 of your Player Agreement Contract entered into with Gor Mahia Football Club we hereby write to advise you that we have terminated your contract with immediate effect on grounds of Just Cause as also stipulated in FIFA Article 14 Regulations of the Statues and Transfer of Players,” the letter from the club read.
The club also complained that Oliech was influencing fellow teammates negatively by leading go-slows and demanding payments without playing or reporting for training. He also missed the coronation and medal party at Machakos during the end of the 2018/2019 KPL season without any explanation nor communication to the club officials.
“You are and have been guilty of serious misconduct and continued poor performance on the field of play. You have without reason and without prior permission from the Head Coach, the Team Manager or any other duly authorized Club Official absented yourself on numerous diverse days from training thereby denying the club the opportunity to field you as a striker,” added the club.
Through the letter, the club management said Oliech’s political ambition was also another reason for terminating his contract, citing that it would paint the club’s image negatively.
Oliech is currently eyeing the Kibra Member of Parliament seat, which is heavily crowded with the by-election set to take place on August 31.
Oliech did not announce officially that he wanted to leave the club and join the Kibra political race, but it was so clear from his posts on social media that he was soon going to be a political aspirant.
“You have offered yourself as a candidate for popular political elections, a move that is likely to portray the club in a bad light, cause disaffection among club’s supporters and fans, a step that is inconsistent with and inimical to your standing as the club’s football player. Further, you have posted a photograph of yourself in the social media donning the club’s jersey indicating your political intentions,” said the club.
Oliech played for international clubs like Auxerre, Nantes, and Ajaccio as a forward before joining Gor Mahia in the Kenya premier league at the age of 34. He captained the national team, Harambee Stars.
Prior his contract termination by Gor Mahia, Oliech still brags being Kenya’s all-time top scorer, bagging 34 goals in his football career.
