A fatal accident along Kenol-Murang’a road involving a private car killed four people after after it drove straight into the nearby Ithe Rui River.
The four who had boarded the private car died on the spot in the Tuesday evening, 6th August, accident.
Confirming the accident, the Murang’a County Police Commander Josphat Kinyua said the vehicle was likely moving on high speed which could have led to the driver’s loss of control.
Commander Kinyua informed that the bodies of the four were moved to Maragua Hospital mortuary.
Commander Kinyua also revealed that three other people who were involved in the accident had been admitted at Maragua Rural Hospital.
Commander Kinyua urged motorists to drive with caution along the section which he described as a black spot saying, “Many people have lost their lives at the spot due to spending. Motorists should exercise caution while approaching the spot.”
The Known Blackspot
The spot that claimed the four yesterday, 6th August, has previously been a scene of accidents hence being a marked black spot.
An assistant chief in Murang’a County together with a child died barely two months ago after a JKUAT bus was hit by a matatu.
The blood of a family of seven washed the same Murang’a spot after their car too drove into the same Ithe Rui River.
Road Accident Deaths in Kenya
Between 3000 and 13,000 Kenyans lose their lives in road traffic crashes every year. A majority of these people are vulnerable road users; pedestrians, motorcyclists, and cyclists.
Nearly one-third of deaths are among passengers, many of whom are killed in unsafe forms of public transportation.
At least 30 people have lost their lives in less than one week following road accidents in various parts of the country, further raising questions over the safety of Kenyan roads.
