Kenya has for over a decade suffered from unemployment which has resulted to rise of criminal activities in the Country and along its borders.
Lack of employment in Kenya has attributed to a mass migration of the youth to Arab countries where some are mistreated and killed or deported after abuse.
The solution to unemployment in the Country has evaded our leaders for years on end but the current education Cabinet Secretary (CS) George Magoha seems to have a solution going by the reforms he is making in the education sector.
CS George Magoha, in a report tabled to Parliamentary Committee, plans to have a number of universities drop a list of courses because they are overcrowded despite their demand being very low in the Country.
Kenyan universities, in their attempt to raise revenue to facilitate their day to day activities, add courses in their programs upon demand of enrollment despite not even having lecture rooms where the classes can be carried.
The universities, upon adding the courses to the list of offered courses then visit CUE to seek approval to offer the courses.
Duplicated courses, according to the Government, account for an estimated 82 percent of students who graduate from various universities each year.
The case of duplicated courses in the Universities explains why Kenya continues to wallow in unemployment despite having such large numbers of educated people.
The courses listed in this article are not only duplicated in the universities but are overcrowded with very little demand in the market hence making them uneconomical to choose from as one’s chances to secure employment is limited.
