Schools are set to open next week. School opening dates come with a lot of activities for everyone involved, especially the parent.
The most strenuous yet most important aspect of children going back to school, for the parent, is the financial bit. Your little one has to have enough pocket money, and personal effects to be comfortable in school. And of course, they have to pay fees to be kept in school.
Do you as a parent still go to the bank to pay your child’s school fees over the counter? Worse, do you still go walking around with liquid cash waiting for your turn at the school bursar’s office? I hope not.
Times have changed so much that I even doubt the school bursars have queues outside their offices anymore, so don’t plan on doing that.
Also, don’t close your business because you want to pay for school fees. You can do that in no time using your phone.
The Co-operative Bank of Kenya has a way out on matters that concern school. This means that they have systems in place to ensure that school fees are paid easily and conveniently using their different channels.
With easy access to M-PESA and MCo-op Cash, you no longer have to worry about catching the first matatu in the morning to beat the queue in the bank.
This is how to do it;
Via M-PESA
- Go to Lipan an M-Pesa (PayBill)
- Enter business code 400222
- Enter the Account Number as school code followed by # followed by the student number, e.g. 1059#123456789
- Enter amount
- Enter M-Pesa Pin
- Confirm transaction
- Receive SMS confirming that the transaction was successful

- Log into MCo-op cash
- Select Other Payments
- Select School Fees
- Enter the School code/business number
- Enter the account to pay from
- Enter student number
- Confirm transaction
- Receive SMS confirming that the transaction was successful
