Every year, universities in Kenya release thousands of graduates to the job market, among them those who have taken education.
These lots go out with the hope of getting absorbed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) when their time comes.
However, there are qualifications to be met before you are registered with the teachers’ employer or are even considered a qualified teacher.
Some graduates have been left out of employment for failing to meet the set requirements to enable them be allowed in the classrooms.
According to TSC, for one to qualify to teach in secondary school level, he/she must have studied and passed the teaching subject(s) at the same level.
One would only qualify to teach the respective subjects if they scored at least grade C+ (plus) at high school, before joining the university. Alternatively, the candidate must have upgraded the subject(s) grade.
Only after one has these qualifications can he/she register for a TSC number which is what identifies qualified teachers in Kenya.
The TSC came up with an online process of registration for teachers to be able to do it easily, faster and their convenience.
Here are the steps you need to follow if you’re applying for a TSC number;
- Visit the TSC website teachersonline.go.ke
- Click on the ‘new teacher registration’ module. Here, you will find more instructions and will be required to fill a form with your correct details such as your ID number, surname, educational qualifications, etc. After filling it with the required information, click next.
- You will then have to attach your documents.
