In Kenya, The Rich Don’t Vote But The Poor

political leaders

Have you ever seen Kenyan politicians holding campaign rallies in such posh places as Kitsuru or Muthaiga? They rarely do.

You will always find them in slums and those areas where the “have-nots” stay and frequent. That is where their votes lie.

In Kenya, the rich don’t vote. They don’t register to vote either. They only register when there is something in for them, like running for a political position.

Currently, there are Members of County Assemblies (MCAs), Members of Parliament (MPs), Senators and Governors who were never voted in by their wives, children, and husbands simply because they never vote.

In this country, the poor are the ones who vote. The poor are the ones who wake up in the dead of the night to form meandering lines at polling stations to vote in a certain tycoon.

In this country, the poor are the ones who present themselves to be roasted by the scorching sun as they wait to vote it a rich person who will disappear for the next five years.

The rich guys the poor elect have no business with the poor. In fact, they are scared of the poor. They only move closer to them for cameras to roll after which they run to their personal doctors for an immediate check-up.

If the rich guys we elect cared about the poor, this country would not be losing 1 trillion shillings every year to corruption.

If the rich guys we elected cared about the poor, they will not be demanding for house allowances, night allowances as well as medical cover for their concubines.

If the rich guys we elected cared about the poor, their kids would be schooling in the same public schools as the poor. Their kids would be subscribing to the same curriculum they are imposing down the throat of the poor.

If the rich guys we elected cared about the poor, they would not be running to seek medical attention abroad using the taxes that the same poor people pay.

Let me tell you something, the majority of the leaders we have don’t care about this country. This country is only useful to them when they die.

Picture this: they do their shopping abroad, their kids go to school abroad, their families live abroad, only when they die, is when their bodies are “flown back home” for “special service” and they are eulogized as heroes.

The leadership of this country will not be changed through the ballot unless the poor are enlightened. The ballot will continue giving us the same mediocre leaders like the ones we have.

We need a revolution. A revolution of the mind.
