“Sarah Wairimu Cohen will be allowed to bury her husband, Tob Cohen as it is within her rights as the widow of the late,”High Court Judge Stella Mutuku has ordered in a Court application done by Sarah’s lawyer Phillip Murgor.
Sarah who is accused of having a hand in her husband’s murder will today, 23rd September 2019, be escorted to the Jewish Cemetery where her late husband Tob Cohen, will be laid to rest after the cultural rights are done.
Tob Cohen who is the former Chief Executive Officer at Phillips will be laid to rest to rest at around 2pm in a Jewish private ceremony.
Sarah Wairimu stands accused of murdering her husband and awaits psychiatric assessment before she can be allowed to take a plea on the charges facing her on the 26th September 2019.
Tob Cohen, a Dutch Jewish is said to have made it very open that he wished to be buried according to the Jewish norms.
Tob Cohen’s Jewish Burial
One of the Jewish burial requirements is for one to be buried as soon as they are dead with a maximum of 36 hours which was impossible in the case of Tob Cohen given the circumstance of his death.
The Jewish Cemetery in Nairobi is located along the Wangari Maathai road where Sarah will be escorted to by Prison Officers as ordered by the High Court.
Jewish burials’ are normally private, simple and sentimental where only the closest of family members and friends are allowed.
The deceased, Tob Cohen will not be buried in a coffin as is done African traditions but will rather be wrapped in while clothes.
Women, including the wife, Sarah Wairimu, will not be allowed anywhere near the grave and will be required to stand several metres away.
Tob Cohen’s death remains a mystery
Tob Cohen is believed to have gone missing on the night of 19th July 2019 only for his body to resurface in an underground tank in an empty tank in his Kitusuru home.
Tob Cohen’s will was read on the 18th September 2019 where his billions were divided between his sister, Gabrielle Cohen, who took 50 percent and his nephew and niece who took 25 percent respectively.
Sarah Wairimu rejected an invite to attend to the will opening of her husband claiming that it had been compromised as an article had already been published before the contents of the document supposed to be private were revealed to its recipients.
“We note that the contents of the publication (the Star) have not been denied or retracted and therefore presumed to be correct,” the letter addressing Kirundi & Co. advocates, who was Cohen’s lawyer, said.
