Kenyans have been asked to prepare themselves for heavy rainfall this weekend, between Thursday 10th October to13th October 2019 that could easily result in flash floods in some parts in the Country.
The meteorological department on Friday warned that rains recorded to be over 20mm which are likely to be accompanied by extremely strong winds will be experienced across the weekend and ease up to Monday.
The meteorological department revealed that high rainfall intensity would hit Northeastern, Central and Coastal regions over the weekend.
Other counties mentioned as likely to be affected by the heavy rainfall include those in the Southeastern Central of the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, and East of the Rift Valley, Coastal strip, Northeastern, and also those in the Northwestern parts of the country.
Kenyans who live or will be in the mentioned Counties are urged to be cautious and on the lookout for likely flash floods so as to stay safe.
“Floodwaters may suddenly appear, even in places where it has not rained heavily and even may appear deeper and faster than it may look,” the meteorological department noted.
The meteorological department has advised Kenyans not to drive or walk through flowing water as this could easily have them carried away and lead to injuries if not deaths.
The weatherman has also warned that people should avoid taking shelter under trees and near grilled windows to avoid any form of exposure to lightning strikes which have been known to be fatal in previous times.
Barely a week ago, flash floods in Gither ward Mandera West in Mandera County killed over 1000 livestock.
