Four people have been confirmed dead while 13 others are still fighting for their lives after consuming githeri in Baringo on Friday.
17 people who were working on a farm in Baringo started complaining of a stomachache as soon as they were done with a meal consisting of githeri.
Baringo County Commissioner Henry Wafula has confirmed the incident and said that 13 survivors are hospitalized at Baringo Referal Hospital where they are fighting for their lives with investigations underway.
“The young men were working on a farm at the Marigat scheme. The owner of the farm is known as Eric Omondi. After they finished their work, he gave them some food but it seems that the meal was not good,” said the County Commissioner.
Preliminary reports indicate that the workers might be suffering from severe food poisoning with the governor for Baringo County, Stanely Kptis calling on the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to help in establishing what really happened.
