The Co-operative Bank of Kenya, through Co-op Bank Foundation, has awarded 655 bright but needy students scholarships to join various secondary schools across the country.
The 655 beneficiaries of this year’s scholarship program by the Co-op Bank Foundation were selected from applicants who sat the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) for 2019.
To date, the Co-op Bank Foundation has sponsored a total of 7,640 students since its inception.
The Co-operative Bank of Kenya funds the Co-op Bank Foundation to the tune of 155 million shillings to sponsor at least 655 bright but needy students in Kenya each year.
Of the 655 beneficiaries, 420 of them were selected during the Co-operative Bank’s regional delegates’ forums while the remaining 235 were shared equally among the 47 counties.
Since its inception, the Co-op Bank Foundation has sponsored a total of 7,332 beneficiaries for secondary education while 308 are in universities.
The Co-operative Bank also takes care of the top 28 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) students each year by giving them full scholarship for the university education.
The lender is also taking care of 177 students who are selected from the top scholarship beneficiaries in secondary schools with an additional full scholarship through their university education.
The Co-op Bank Foundation kicked off with sponsoring about 30 students per region. The program has now grown to sponsor 60 students per region and an additional five students per County.
The Co-operative Bank has used about 1.5 billion shillings to the program of helping out needy but bright students in the pursuit of their education.
“Our scholarship beneficiaries are selected at the grassroots level by various co-operative societies across the country through a well-established national delegates system,” said Co-op Bank’s Chief Executive Officer Mr. Gideon Muriuki.
According to Co-operative Bank, there are so many needy but bright students across the country who need sponsorship and called on other people to help and make the dreams of many students come through.
