Why I Want To Be LSK President – Maria Mbeneka

Maria Mbeneka has rolled out her 9-point manifesto which she hopes to start implementing as soon as she takes over the mantle of LSK. “I have offered my candidature for the seat (President of LSK) because I have a clear vision of what the future should look like: one that is all-inclusive, member-centric and progressive,” she said.

In her manifesto, Maria visions one Society. According to her, LSK has evolved over the years through a rich history of traditions and greatness. She hopes to unify the Society and maintain the greatness to foster its expert role in society.

Promoting the rule of law is in Maria’s agenda. She says the discourse on the constitutional amendments and the legislative reforms requires the input of the Law Society of Kenya. She hopes to make the voice of the Society heard by timelessly providing the position of the law and advising on the legality of the public discourse on upholding the rule of law, and independence of the constitution.

“I have the zeal, goodwill, energy and proven track record to deliver on this agenda,” she said, “I will also push for the amendment of S.22 (2) of the Advocates Act to allow LSK to process and issue Practice Certificates immediately upon application by a compliant member.”
