Outpatient services
For the outpatient services, NHIF pays for consultation fees, laboratory examinations with the exemption of a few tests, drug dispensation (with a list of covered drugs), health education, wellness and counseling, physiotherapy services, and immunization for all the KEPI injections.
Inpatient Services
For the inpatient services, NHIF covers the bed charges alone if one is on the national enrollment where one pays 500 shillings or if working.
If one is on the civil servant enrollment then NHIF pays for the bed, nursing care, consultation, medication, laboratory services, surgeries, physiotherapy, and specialist consultation.

Maternity Services
If enrolled for the 500 shillings monthly cover, for maternity, NHIF only covers for the bed.
If using the civil servant NHIF covers literally everything from the bed to the delivery services and the nursing care.
Services covered by NHIF for civil servants also include:
Imaging Services such as X-ray, Ultrasound, MRI and CT scans.
Renal Dialysis which include inpatient and outpatient care for pre-dialysis, intra dialysis and dialysis care at a maximum of 9, 500 shillings per session two times weekly.
Kidney transplant for both local and overseas treatment
Surgeries ranging from major, minor and specialized surgeries with a package totaling to an average 500, 000 shillings per person.
Cancer Treatment- Cancer cases in Kenya have been at an alarming rate with the disease requiring early diagnosis for successful treatment. NHIF pays, in the Supa cover, up to 18, 000 shillings for radiotherapy on a patient per week.
NHIF pays 25,000 shillings for Chemotherapy at basic level costs of 25, 000 shillings per family.
