Nyeri County Governor Mutahi Kahiga has given a clean bill of health to the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga saying it has brought peace and stability.
“I want to appreciate that His Excellency Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta should go down in history as a President who thought about his people not once, not twice but even the third time,” said the Governor in reference to the handshake between the President and Raila Odinga.
In what has been seen as the kicking off the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) debate in Nyeri County, the Governor says the initiative is laying down a firm foundation for a sustainable peace into the future.
“As a way of bringing longterm peace and integration in Kenya, the President saw it fit to introduce the Building Bridges Initiative… can we as Kenyans start seeing the big picture of BBI other than this small thing called 2022?” He said.
The Governor congratulated the President for the peace that came across after the handshake. He says, was it not for the President’s need for peace and for the future of Kenya, the country would still be in turmoil.
He thanked the President for the BBI initiative that is laying a foundation for sustainable peace into the future. He confirmed that Nyeri Leadership at all levels is working in peace together and therefore has achieved a lot because of this stability.
There has been a heated debate about the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), especially after President Uhuru Kenyatta extended the mandate of the committee in what he said was to give it more time to collect more views and enlighten Kenyans about the issues contained in the report.
Various meetings have been lined up with the recent one taking place in Kakamega County. The next meeting is happening on Saturday in Mombasa with politicians who were initially opposed to the report promising to attend.
