The newly appointed Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture Peter Munya has directed the New KCC to start buying milk from Kenyan farmers at the price of 33 shillings per liter with immediate effect.
Peter Munya was moved into the agricultural docket on January 14, 2020, by President Uhuru Kenyatta during a major cabinet reshuffle where Mwangi Kiunjuri, who was holding the position was unceremoniously fired.
The directive from Peter Munya comes a day after President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered various changes in the agricultural sector including buying milk from farmers at better prices.
Currently, farmers across the country have been selling their milk at the price of 18 shillings per liter, a move that has seen some farmers pour out their milk in frustrations.
President Uhuru Kenyatta also ordered the National Treasury to immediately impose a 16 percent Value Added Tax on all milk and milk products from countries outside the East African Community.
