The much-talked-about Njaanuary is finally coming to an end and the long-awaited February is just standing by waiting to kick-off the only shortest month that comes once a year.
January or Njaanuary has been one of the most difficult months for the majority of Kenyans. In fact, those who ate Chicken during the December and New Year celebration, had no otherwise but to eat like a chicken during the month of January.
January is the only month that will have you hating your friends for ‘refusing’ to lend you money when in the real sense, it is all about your poor financial planning habits.
January will have you going through your phonebook, looking for a contact to borrow money from only to realize that you are the only richest person in your own contact list.
January, as it always does, came at a time parents were taking their children to school where school fees are enough to cost someone a leg. It also came at a time where the majority of Kenyans are losing their jobs as businesses close down due to the tough business environment.

January is also the month that swarms of locusts have invaded Kenya, viciously and in an organized manner, moving from one county to another, ravaging anything green on their way.
During the month, one of the most searched phrases was “How to silence/mute the beeping of a prepaid KPLC meter.” Those meters had no shame telling everyone who cared to listen how broke one is to the extent of not being able to purchase power tokens.
Mama Mbogas must have smiled during the month of January. The majority of people miraculously became diehard vegetarians and regular visitors to the Mama Mboga, although we had looked down on them as we murdered chicken and other eatable animals in December.
But as January comes to an end, the question you should ask yourself is; what have you learned? Have you taken down any lessons that will help you in the future?
