Galaxy Z Flip: Samsung Launches Second Foldable Phone

On Tuesday, 11th February 2020, Samsung unveiled its second fold phone, the Galaxy Z Flip, in the wake of growing interest in foldable smartphones among consumers and phone makers.

In 2019, Samsung launched its first foldable phone but after several reviewers experienced their Fold phones screens breaking, Samsung delayed its release.

The new Galaxy Z Flip has a strong hinge that opens up the phone like a case, into a 6.7-inch screen that fits in a pocket when folded.

Due to the strong hinge, the phone is harder to open with one hand but it opens up smoothly, doesn’t creak and can hold itself open in any position.

According to Samsung, the reason for making the hinge so stiff is that you can set the phone down at an angle and do split-screen things.

A foldable phone wouldn’t be a smartphone without a camera, and Samsung has included three on the Galaxy Z Flip.

At the front, there’s a 10-megapixel f/2.4 selfie camera, and at the back, there’s a dual-camera system with a 12-megapixel ultrawide and a regular 12-megapixel wide-angle camera. The back-camera system includes the ability to shoot night Hyper lapse videos or low light shots with Samsung’s night mode.

When closed, if you double press the power button (which doubles as a fingerprint sensor), on the tiny front-facing screen, you can launch the selfie camera and see yourself. More practically, it can be used to show the time and some notifications. Samsung says when you tap on a notification on the tiny screen, it opens up in the app when you open the phone.

Samsung has said that it is planning to release this new Galaxy Z Flip in the US and Korea on valentine’s day, February 14th, 2020, in purple and black priced at 1,380 US dollars. A gold version will also follow in “select countries” soon.
