Jubilee Secretary-General and CS Raphael Tuju have been flown to Karen hospital after a road accident today, 12th February 2020, involving a Prado and matatu at Magina along Nakuru-Nairobi Highway.
The accident that left Raphael Tuju seriously injured and 18 others injured with the matatu occupants sustaining minor injuries happened as Tuju was heading to Kabarak for President Moi’s funeral.
Passengers in the matatu that got involved in an accident with Raphael Tuju’s car sustained minor injuries and fractures while the driver who suffered severe injuries to the head and chest and remains at Kijabe Mission Hospital.
The Matatu driver and Raphael Tuju were the most injured of all 18 casualties in the early morning Wednesday accident.
The Matatu driver is on life support at the Kijabe Mission Hospital where he is admitted.
Tuju was to be transferred to Nairobi after the accident but Doctors at Kijabe Mission hospital advised against it and scheduled him for surgery instead.
Tuju underwent emergency surgery at Kijabe Mission Hospital to arrest active bleeding in his abdomen.
Tuju who had complained of chest pains after the accident has now been airlifted to the Karen hospital alongside his personal doctor, for further care.
Raphael Tuju’s driver and bodyguard were airlifted to Nairobi after the accident and were reported to have suffered some fractures in the right leg and arm respectively.
“The matatu had swerved to avoid hitting a car that had stopped ahead of it abruptly when it collided head-on with that of Tuju,” the Central police commander Patrick Lumumba said.
The matatu driver says he was avoiding to hit another car when he collided with Tuju’s car.
