A Finance Minister In Germany Commits Suicide Over Economy Recovery In The Wake Of Covid-19

A Finance Minister in Germany has committed suicide in the wake of massive spread of Covid-19, affecting economies around the world.

Thomas Schaefer, a Finance Minister in Germany’s Hesse State is said to have committed suicide after he became “deeply worried” about the recovery of the economy with the ongoing spread of Coronavirus.

The 54-year-old minister’s lifeless body was found near a railway track on Saturday with authorities saying he might have died from suicide.

“We are in shock. We are in disbelief and above all, we are immensely sad,” said the state’s Prime Minister Volker Bouffier in a statement on Sunday.

Global Cases

Globally, the Coronavirus cases are at 683,525 with experts warning of the number hitting a million in the next few days. The countries leading in confirmed cases include the United States of America, China, Italy and Spain.

The number of confirmed deaths stands at 32,139 across the globe with Italy leading with over 10,000 deaths. Hospitals in Italy are now overwhelmed with the morgues said to be full and funeral homes say they can no longer cope with th demand.

Good news is a total of 146,396 people have so far recovered from the deadly Coronavirus around the world even as scientists struggle to find a vaccine. Scientists say it would take at least a year for the vaccine to be available to the public.
