The Law Society of Kenya elections went down on Thursday, the 27th February 2020, and Nelson Havi took over the Presidential seat but what slipped the eyes of many was the high number of females voted in.
The Law Society of Kenya elections seemed to have taken the issue of gender equality very seriously and not only allowed women competitors for the sheer need to balance the equation but got worthy candidates.
From the LSK Presidential level, the smart lady lawyers, Maria Mbeneka and Harriet Chaggai gave Charles Kanjama and Nelson Havi a serious run for their money.
All of them, like the worthy candidates they were conceded defeat and promise to be available and willing to work with the new president-elect, Nelson Havi.
Maria Mbeneka and Harriet Chaggai were joined by Charles Kanjama in putting their differences aside to working to together uplift the Law Society of Kenya.
Ladies Were Overwhelmingly Voted in the LSK
Unlike in Kenyan politics where women have to get preserved seats as they seem to have allowed one gender dominance, in the LSK elections, the beautiful ladies had to square it out with the men.
In the LSK council seats, the lady lawyers joined the men in competing for the seats and not only did they shine, but they also outshone!
Exact 10 ladies won to sit in the LSK council and only three men won which means now that the council is not balanced in terms of gender but for once in this lifetime, we are not talking of women seeming to be weak.
They LSK ladies voted as the members of the council did not get it on the silver platters and neither was there a discussion of them being women to deserve being voted in, it was their papers, endearing nature to their voters and their deliverables.
The huge number of ladies voted into the Law Society of Kenyacouncil should be an inspiration to everyone out there, do not use your gender as a reason to fail, do not even let it be used to excuse you.
