President Uhuru Sets Up NMS To Take Over Functions From Mike Sonko

The Nairobi County government through the Nairobi Governor and the National Government has today signed the deed of transfer of Nairobi County Management.

The Deed of Transfer has been signed between President Uhuru Kenyatta and the Nairobi Governor today,18th March 2020, at State House in Nairobi.

The Deed of Transfer now grants the National Government the authority and mandate to fully run a number of functions that were in the mandate of the County government.

The public service board and the Kenya Revenue Authority will take up the many functions of the Nairobi County Government.

KRA will now be in charge of revenue collection within Nairobi County.

The final deal of the Deed of Functions has been signed after a process of public participation where Kenyans were invited to air their opinion.

The ceremony was witnessed by Attorney General Paul Kihara, national speaker Kenneth Lusaka, Nairobi Senator Johson Sakaja, Nairobi speaker Beatrice Elachi, Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa, Hillary Igambe (KRA) among other distinguished guests.

“The citizen does not differentiate the various levels of government, the citizen simply wishes to have the service delivered,” President Uhuru has said during the Nairobi Deed of Transfer ceremony.

“Cartels in Nairobi have made it literally impossible to deliver services with deeply rooted corruption and it is for this reason that the Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko and I thought it wise to bring in the National government,” President Uhuru has said.

Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) will be in charge of all the functions transferred by the County Government to the National Government.

NMS will be tasked with fighting the corruption derailing services to the residents of Nairobi County and will first focus on the urbanization of Jevanjee and Pangani which ought to have kicked off in 2018.

The NMS will also be tasked with garbage collection, city construction, and mapping, water distribution services (rationing)

The NMS will be led by Major General Mohamed Abdala Badi and be deputized by Enosh Onyango Momanyi.
