A market analysis has shown that a 115 kg bag of green maize is retailing at an average price of 2,000 shillings.
The highest prices of the commodity recorded across the analyzed markets were in Kitale, where the same 115 kg bag is retailing at 3,000 shillings.
In Eldoret, a 115 kg bag of green maize is retailing the cheapest at only 1,400 shillings, which is 600 shillings cheaper than the country’s average price.
In other markets, the price of a 115 kg bag of the commodity is 2,100 shillings in Nairobi, 1,500 shillings in Isiolo and 2,000 shillings in Nakuru.
Prices for green maize in Mombasa are not available.
In comparison, dry maize is a bit expensive as compared to the latter because a 90 Kg bag is retailing an average price of 2,550 shillings.
Isiolo markets have the lowest prices for dry maize, with a 90 Kg bag going for 1,800 shillings.
In Nairobi, Nakuru, and Eldoret, the price of 90 Kg bags of the dry commodity is 2,800 shillings.
