President Uhuru Kenyatta has directed his salary and that of his deputy William Ruto to be reduced by 80 percent to help in cushioning the economy against the effects of Coronavirus.
Uhuru has also ordered the salaries for Cabinet Secretaries to be reduced by 30 percent, same as Chief Administrators. Principal secretaries’ salaries will be reduced by 20 percent.
President Uhuru Kenyatta hopes that the amount collected from the reduced salaries will help in cushioning the economy which has already started receiving the heat against the deadly Coronavirus.
Question remains; will the President and his deputy have their salaries deducted? This is not the first time the Head of State is announcing to reduce his salary.
The Head of State also said that one billion shillings from the UHC kitty will be immediately appropriated to recruit more health workers in the support of the management of COVID-19.
President Uhuru has also revealed in his national address that members of the national executive will be taking salary cuts to enable financial boost against the COVID-19.
