Victor Wanyama Signs For Montreal Impact For Free From Tottenham

Harambee Stars midfielder and Captain Victor Mugubi Wanyama has left Tottenham Hotspur and has signed for Canadian side Montreal Impact.

Wanyama, who has been unsure about his future at Tottenham has now decided to join the Major League Soccer club Montreal Impact on a three-year contract.

“We have reached an agreement with Major League Soccer side Montreal Impact for the transfer of Victor Wanyama, “Tottenham Hotspur announced on their website on Tuesday, March 3, 2020.

Montreal Impact also confirmed the free transfer of Wanyama as they made a fancy unveiling of the 28-year-old on their website.

“Montreal Impact announced on Tuesday that it has agreed with Kenyan national team midfielder and Captain Victor Wanyama as a Designated Player, a free transfer from Tottenham Hotspur FC.”

“He has signed a three-year contract with the club. His acquisition will be confirmed after receipt of his international transfer certificate and his medical examination,” Montreal announced.

Wanyama had signed for Tottenham hotspurs in 2016 has made 97 appearances and has scored only seven goals for the English side.

In 2018, Wanyama suffered a knee injury which affected his career and his stay at the club.

Since Jose Mourinho took over as Tottenham’s club manager, Wanyama has been left out of the squad with the latest one being a UEFA champion’s league match.

When he was asked why he keeps on leaving Wanyama out of the squad, Mourinho said he has no option since the Kenyan is playing at a position where most players are supposed to play.

“In practical terms, it is the same. He is available to play. Victor and Michel Vorm is a different story. I feel safer by having Michel on the list.” Mourinho said during a press conference.

I don’t want to have the risk of losing Paulo or Hugo and not to have Michel on the list. Victor is in a position where we have lots of players. Winks, Dier, Skipp, and Gedson,”
