The Kenya Revenue Authority has announced that it will charge a three percent penalty on individuals and companies in Nairobi that delay paying their dues.
This follows after KRA was appointed as the principal-agent for overall revenue collection for all Nairobi county revenue on March 13, 2020, for a period of 24 months.
According to the taxman, all the Nairobi County residents will be required to pay all their due rates before the deadline or pay an additional fee.
“Pay your land rates and single business permits by March 31, 2020, to avoid attracting an additional penalty of 3% per month.” read the statement by the taxman.
“Kindly pay all the mandatory county dues to avoid enforcement actions thereafter,” KRA added.
KRA urged Nairobi County Residents who have not cleared their land rates, parking fees, single business permits, building plan approvals, billboards, rental houses and stalls, market fees, health certificates, and all mandatory county dues to do so before the deadline.
The taxman also advised that those with dues should make the payments electronically or at a specified branch after collection of payment invoices from City Hall.
“All banking slips and transaction documents for payments made must be presented to the head of County Revenue or County Cash Office for issuance of official receipt.”
Individuals seeking new applications or renewal of single business permits were advised to do so online on the county web portal.
The revenue collection was among the Key functions that the Nairobi County gave to the national Government after embattled Governor Sonko handed over power.
Nairobi County was transformed to Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) where Major-General Mohammed Abdallah Badi was appointed as the Director-General of the NMS. Enosh Momanyi was appointed as his deputy.
Following the appointments, Governor Sonko was left with fewer functions to handle with experts saying the move paralyzed his impeachment motion.
