Massive landslides rocked West Pokot County on Saturday afternoon with several people missing and others feared dead.
The floods are said to have hit Chesekon town in West Pokot County at the border with Elgeyo Marakwet County.
According to Senator for Elgeyo Marakwet County, Mr. Kipchumba Murkomen, several houses, including a police station have been swept away.
“We have asked the relevant government departments to respond fast. It is feared that several lives might have been lost already. Many survivors need to be rescued,” said Mr. Murkomen through his official Twitter handle.
Witnesses say the floods got many families in their houses as they rushed to take refuge from the stormy rain that “was out of the ordinary.”
There are no official report on the exact number of houses that were swept away, the number of individuals missing or dead. Officials say rescue operations are being affected by the hostile weather.
