Tanzania Covid-19 cases Jump to 480 After 196 More Positive

COVID-19 Omicron

Tanzania is now the Covid-19 hotspot in East Africa after the country reported 196 new cases over the last 24 hours taking the total number to 480.

The numbers have surged over the recent days with Tanzanians blaming their president Pombe Magufuli for his negligence in confronting the crisis.

Tanzania Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa announced that Tanzania also recorded six more deaths bringing the total number to 16. The number of deaths are also the highest in East Africa.

174 of those who tested positive were from the mainland while the remaining 22 were tested in Zanzibar.

However, with the surge in the number of cases, there is still light at the end of the tunnel. Those who have recovered are now 167 up from 48.

Despite the increased number of cases, President Magufuli has failed to impose any social distancing restrictions.

President Magufuli said he wouldn’t lock down Dar Es Salaam since it was an important economic hub and contributes 80 percent of revenue to Tanzania.

The Tanzanian President also refused to close churches despite being advised to do so. He argued dogmatically by saying that “Corona is a devil that cannot exist in the body of Christ.”
