President Uhuru Kenyatta has announced 49 new Covid-19 cases in Kenya in the last 24 hours taking the total number of confirmed cases to 830.
Uhuru Kenyatta has also announced 5 new deaths as a result of Covid-19 in Kenya, raising the total number of fatalities to 50. According to Uhuru Kenyatta, close to 30 percent of the deaths occurred at home.
“It is disturbing to note that close to 30 percent of these recorded deaths happened at home,” said President Uhuru Kenyatta.
According to the Head of State, 481 people are undergoing treatment for Covid-19 at various designated facilities across the country. The number of those who have recovered now stands at 301.
President Uhuru Kenyatta said that a total of 43 positive cases crossed into Kenya from Tanzania and Somalia. To that effect, Uhuru has closed down the border between Kenyan and Tanzania, and Kenya and Somalia with immediate effect.
According to the President, all cargo ferries essential cargo from the countries will be allowed but after the drivers are tested and found to be negative.
Kenyans were hoping that the Head of State was going to ease the directive on the cessation of movement in and out of Nairobi, Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale and Mandera. The President instead extended the directive by 21 more days.
