Corruption is crippling the fight against COVID-19 and just a few days after we highlighted how Kenyans are still going in and out of Eastleigh after a bribe, an NYS officer has been nabbed.
The National Youth Service (NYS) officer has so far been placed under investigations after he was found with 1,750 shillings in 50 shillings denominations at an illegal roadblock in Mlango Kubwa along Juja Road, Nairobi.
The young man working with the NYS could have simply been collateral damage as the big fish walked away, his main crime could be it was his first time and he did not know how to ensure he was not found.
What is more peculiar is that the NYS officer, Brighton Njuguna Muganda, had not even been assigned to the Mlango Kubwa along Juja road roadblock where he was found manning when he was apprehended after the police officers.
It is reported that CCTV cameras at Jogoo House spotted the NYS officer, Brighton Njuguna Muganda collecting the cash from people who seemed to be wanting to make their way into Eastleigh.
Brighton Njuguna Muganda, the corrupt NYS officer, was found with 32 50-shilling notes form his pockets and these are believed to have been collected from Nairobi residents who corrupted their way in and out of Eastleigh.
Muganda failed to account for the 32 50-shilling notes which led to his arrest y police officers from the Pangani police station.
Muganda’s phone is currently at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Cyber Crime Unit for analysis with the case recorded under OB number May 21 vide OB 18/21/05/2020.
“The respondent (Muganda) had not been officially deployed at the said roadblock at the time of being found with the same money,” Corporal Kenneth Kalya of Starehe DCI offices said in an affidavit filed at the Makadara law courts on 22nd May 2020.
