Elgeyo-Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has been axed from being the Senate Majority Leader in a move seen as a clean up of Deputy President William Ruto allies from the Jubilee government.
The Elgeyo-Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has been replaced with the West Pokot Senator Samuel Poghisio in a number of changes that have been made in a Jubilee coalition Senate Parliamentary Group Meeting.
The Jubilee coalition Senate Parliamentary Group Meeting attended by twenty senators occurred today, 11th May 2020, and was chaired by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dullo Adan is now the deputy majority leader while Murang’ a County Senator Irungu Kang’ata is now the majority chief whip and will be deputized by Nominated Senator Farhiya Ali Haji.
President Uhuru has congratulated and reassured the newly selected group of leaders of his support through the statement released by State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena-Mararo.
Below is a breakdown of the new Senate selections:
1. Majority Leader: Sen. Samuel Poghisio (KANU)
2. Deputy Majority Leader: Sen. Fatuma Dullo (JP)
3. Majority Whip: Sen. Irungu Kang’ata (JP)
4. Deputy Majority Whip: Sen. Haji Farhiya Ali (JP)
President Uhuru Kenyatta is also the Party Leader of the Jubilee Coalition and says he looks forward to working closely with the new Senate Leadership to deliver on his promises to Kenyans.
The former Senate Majority Leader Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen is expected to address the media for a press briefing at his office in Parliament Buildings.
