The World Health Organization (WHO) has revealed a new report showing asymptomatic patients rarely spread the Coronavirus to other individuals.
According to Maria Van Kerkhove, a WHO technical lead, asymptomatic cases in most countries have been traced but there has been little proof that Secondary individuals who interacted with the positive cases, got infected.
“From the data we have, it still seems to be rare that an asymptomatic person transmits onward to a second individual, “Van Kerkhove said during a media briefing on Monday,8, June 2020.
The WHO official goes ahead to explain that there are two infection stages that people tend to confuse, a pre-symptomatic stage and being Asymptomatic.
In a pre-symptomatic stage, an individual has been infected but no symptoms have occurred yet. This is the early stage of an infection which makes most people be assumed as asymptomatic. For this, an individual may later have severe symptoms or remain asymptomatic until the end of the infection.
For an asymptomatic stage, an individual has been infected but he or she can go throughout the infection without showing any serious symptoms. Most asymptomatic patients showcases of mild illnesses.
“They’re not quote-unquote Covid-19 symptoms, meaning they may not have developed fever yet, they may not have had a significant cough, or they may not have shortness of breath — but some may have mild disease.”
The new revelation is not yet published, meaning that the data is not yet approved but it is under review.
Earlier, some experts argued that Patients with asymptomatic symptoms were spreading the Coronavirus to other people unknowingly, a situation that was blamed for the increased number of cases in most countries.
US Center for Disease Control revealed that most cases estimated at 40 percent were transmissions that occurred before the patients started feeling sick. On this, countries are still being advised to continue tracking all patients whether symptomatic or asymptomatic as they seek to flatten the Covid-19 curve.
