Police Ought To Respect The Sanctity Of Life Regardless Of Social Class

It is probably time that all police officers, globally, awoke to their oath, which entails protecting life regardless of social status, race religion..protecting human life regardless of everything.

When George Floyd was murdered by police in uniform, the officers allowed to be blinded by the color on their skin, and instead of preserving life as is their duty, they took in the most inhumane manner.

George Floyd was a human being whose life required protection, he was a father whose little princess was eagerly waiting to run to for a hug but never showed up because he encountered police officers who felt he did not deserve to live because of the color of his skin.

He begged…George Floyd called the racist police officer that knelt on his neck ‘Sir’ if only to allow him some air, George Floyd called his mother’s name, he begged for water, he told the officer he could not breathe but he was black and that was enough reason to murder him.

Kenyans joined Africans online to demonstrate the injustice meted on George Floyd but soon they were to have one of their own murdered in cold blood in closely related circumstances only this time, it was to be a poor homeless man named Vaite.

You see, Vaite would have loved for his life to mean more so as to deserve to be protected but not ripped apart by the same officers who took an oath to protect lives, most ironic, the injustice happened on Madaraka Day, a day when Kenya celebrated 57 years of self-governance.

Vaite was a Kenyan but that was not enough to grant the life in him the respect it deserved, Vaite was poor, homeless and with nothing to bribe the rogue officers, his life to them must have meant nothing but was he wrong?

Where do the homeless take shelter if not on the street’s corridors and when police officers shoot a homeless man, is that any different from the officer breaking into a home and killing the house owners?

Vaite’s life might never get justice because of one reason, he was poor…the load he lifted despite his aging self-did not do much to create his wealth but is that what is used to weigh and decide who lives and who gets murdered in cold blood?

Vaite’s cold-blooded murderers should not be allowed to continue handling guns as it is clear, they are not responsible enough to be entrusted with human life…rest in peace Vaite…rest in Power fellow Kenyan and may #JusticeforVaite be felt and seen across the land.
