440 Kenyans Test Positive Of Covid-19 On Monday

The new week kicked off with 440 people testing positive of Covid-19 from a sample of 3,197.

The total number of confirmed cases, as of Monday, stood at 17,975 with a cumulative sample load of 279,612.

From the 460 new cases, 437 are Kenyans while 3 are foreigners. 286 of the cases are men while 154 are women. The youngest is one-year-old while the oldest is 84-years-old.

Nairobi County is still leading with the number of positive cases, registering 326 cases on Monday. Machakos registered 32 cases while Kiajido had 17 cases.

Kiambu, Uasin Gishu, and Mombasa counties had 17, 12, and 10 cases respectively. Murang’a, Baringo, and Kilifi counties registered 5 cases each.

Busia, Wajir, and Nandi counties had 2 cases each while Nyeri, Embu, Taita Taveta, and Tharaka Nithi had one case each.

5 more patients died of the virus, taking the total number of fatalities to 285. At the same time, 90 patients recovered and were discharged from various hospitals. The total number of recoveries is now at 7,833.

On Monday, President Uhuru Kenyatta addressed the nation and updated it on the Covid-19 situation in the country. The President chose not to lock down the country, calling on Kenyans to be responsible.

The Ministry of Health has blamed Kenyans for refusing to follow the guidelines laid down by the Ministry such as avoiding crowded places, wearing masks, and washing hands.

During the presidential address on Monday, all bars in Kenya will remain closed until further notice. Those found to contravene the directive will have their licenses revoked permanently.

The current curfew will remain in place for the next 30 days. Kenyans will be expected to be in their house by 9 pm daily and leave at 5 am in the morning.

Gatherings have been banned. The police have been directed to ensure that Kenyans do not gather in large numbers, especially during funerals.

As cases continue to rise, according to the government, it is up to Kenyans to remain safe.
