The whole of Kenya Power and Lighting Company board has resigned. Sources, however, indicate that the new board was forced to resign by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
It is said that the President ordered the whole board to tender their resignation as he plans to institute a new board by the end of the month.
“The company would like to sincerely thank the Directors for their commitment and dedicated service, and wishes them the best in their future endeavours,” said Kenya Power in a statement.
Kenya Power is the only company in Kenya that has no competitor. It is the only electricity supplier in Kenya. It sets its own price but still makes losses in billions of shillings.
Kenyans have also been complaining of pathetic services by the company coupled with numerous blackouts and unresponsive customer care number.
Sources indicate that President Uhuru is seeking to transform the company the same way he is doing with Nairobi through the Nairobi Metropolitan Service (NMS).
