Kenya has registered 637 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours taking the total number of confirmed cases to 14,084.
According to the Ministry of Health, a total of 4,275 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of samples since Covid-19 to 254,273.
10 fatalities have been registered, taking the total number of fatalities to 260. The number of deaths as a result of Covid-19 has continued to rise.
499 people have recovered from the virus and discharged from various hospitals. The total number of recoveries now stands at 6,757.
From today’s cases, 623 are Kenyans while 14 are foreigners. 361 are men while 276 are women. The youngest victim is 1-year-old while the oldest is 88-years-old.
Nairobi has 342 cases, Machakos 85, Kajiado 57, Kiambu 51, Nakuru 22, Mombasa 17, Nyeri 13, Busia 10, Muranga 9, Uasin Gishu 6, Bomet 5, Kericho 3, Kisii 3, Marsabit 2, & Narok, Vihiga, Meru, Embu, Garissa, Homabay, Kakamega, Kilifi, Kirinyaga, Kisumu & Kitui, Laikipia have 1 each.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has scheduled an urgent meeting with county governments on Friday but the meeting has since been moved to Monday following a request from the Council of Governors.
There are fears that the Head of State might impose another lockdown to contain the spiking cases that have hit the roof after the lifting of cessation of movement in the counties of Nairobi, Mombasa and Mandera.
The Government of Kenya has since, secretly abandoned mass testing of Covid-19, and shut down 20 sample collection centres saying it wants to focus on targeted samples.
