Janet Museveni, Uganda’s education and sports minister, has told Ugandans that the government is planning to supply a radio to each household for learning continuity.
In a statement released, the Education minister informs Ugandans that although the ministry had promised to reopen school especially to candidates and finalists, this remains impossible.
Ugandan government had promised to at least allow finalists and candidates to continue and finish with school however, from the look of things, this too has failed.
The spike in the COVID-19 numbers and based on the advice from the ministry of health and other ministries, schools are to remain closed for another month according to Janet Museveni.
Primary and Secondary schools are set to continue learning through radios and TVs, Janet says that schools are very crowded as many even have boarding sections.
Janet Museveni calls upon parents especially those of primary and secondary students to always be keen on when a class is being aired on the radio and inform the students.
Education minister adds that every parent who may not be in a position to closely make a follow up should recommend any other elder to do so and monitor the student throughout the lesson broadcast.
According to Janet Museveni, the government is to also provide printed learning materials and at least 25% of the learners have been catered for, for the start.
The ministry of education assures parents that this learning from home plan shall be successful only if parents work hand in hand with students to attend every lesson broadcasting on the radio or TV.
The ministry is still looking into the continuity of learning for University and other institutions, the ministry has trashed claims of prohibiting E-learning.
According to Janet Museveni, some universities like Uganda Christian University were already embracing e-learning even before the outbreak of COVID-19.
Closure of schools, universities, and institutions was one of the first moves by President Yoweri Museveni following the outbreak of COVID-19. School closure saw the sending of over fifteen million learners home in Uganda.
