Police have launched a manhunt for a woman believed to have buried her one-day-old infant alive.
The 26 years old Waman from Opiyo village, Kokwanyo East Sub location, Rachuonyo East sub-county is said to have conceived the child out of wedlock.
Although the genesis of their tiff is largely unclear, neighbors say the woman was apprehensive of her husband’s wrath after conceiving out of wedlock.
Her husband who works in Kisumu had not been home in over a year and had reportedly warned her of dire consequences.
Her husband said he left home almost two years ago and had not been intimate with his wife at the time. On Monday evening, the woman reportedly delivered and strangled the baby with a cloth. She then buried the body at her cassava farm, a short distance from her house.
Relatives confronted her, she admitted to what she had done and took the family to the farm where she had buried the baby.
After family members exhumed the baby’s body and reburied it near the woman’s house, she took her three children to their maternal home in Kochol.
Upon realizing she was being traced by the local administration, she hit the road, leaving the kids behind
Kokwanyo East Sub location Assistant Chief Don Odero confirmed the incident saying they have launched a manhunt for the young woman who is currently at large.
