Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have arrested a 52-year-old Archibald Kalela Mwandawiro who was arrested on Sunday at Milondo in Wundanyi, Taita Taveta County.
The suspect, Mwandawiro, a computer expert at a local university was arrested with devices used in the interception, access, and transmission of unwanted messages to unauthorized recipients.
The George Kinoti-led directorate said while acting on intelligence, the detectives raided the suspect’s house.
On conducting a thorough search, they found two Global Systems for Mobile communications (GSM), one fitted with 512 sim cards, four Internet Routers, a GSM Skyline inserted with 64 Safaricom sim cards and 25 modems, 83 Airtel sim cards, 76 Safaricom sim Cards, an electric inverter, an HP laptop, and mobile handset.

According to a statement released after his arrest, detectives said the suspect who is well-traveled is believed to have been conducting espionage for a country in the west.
On Saturday, DCI Detectives based in the Nairobi area also arrested a notorious fraudster namely Patrick Olindo Aswan at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
Aswani is accused of fraudulently obtaining money from several unsuspecting citizens in the pretext that he could import vehicles on.
Nairobi Region alone has received several cases where his victims have lost millions of shillings with similar cases being reported in other police stations around the country.
Individuals or entities that could have fallen victims to his fraudulent activities are requested to get in touch with the Regional Investigations office, Nairobi for assistance.
