Police In Kakamega Killed A Man For Not Wearing A Mask

Thug shot dead

Police officers in Kakamega, at Mbururu Police Station, are said to have arrested a man, Dennis Lusava, who was not wearing a mask in the Lukuyani area of Kakamega County.

They are then said to have taken him to Mbururu Police Station, stripped him naked, chained him on a window, clobbered him to death, and then threw his body on the banks of River Nzoia and later told his family that he had been released.

The police post has since been razed down by the angry residents who were demanding answers from the police officers who were threatening to shoot at them.

Homicide detectives have since taken over the case and on Thursday, camped at Kakamega Referral Hospital for an autopsy which concluded that Lusava died from injuries all over his body that had been caused by being hit by blunt objects.

The body also had visible whip marks and detectives have since recovered two-one-meter electric cables recovered alongside other rungus believed to have been used to murder Lusava. The weapons had been hidden in the police station’s toilet.

“They had removed all his clothes and chained him on the rails of the window. He had been beaten to the point that he could not stand on his own. They only allowed me to see him through the window,” said the mother to Lusava.

The autopsy also showed that there was no water in the lungs of Mr. Lusava, meaning he was dumped into the river when he was already dead. All the police officers who were on duty on that fateful night are set to be interrogated.

This is not the first time Kenyan police are accused of shooting or killing citizens on minor accusations. Kenyans have been shot and killed for not observing curfew hours while some like Lusava for not wearing a mask.
