Raisibe Kgomaraga Morathi Appointed As A Director By Safaricom

Kenya’s telecommunications giant, Safaricom, has made changes in its Board of Directors by appointing Ms. Raisibe Kgomagara Morathi as a Director with effect from November 1, 2020.

In August 2020, Vodacom, Safaricom’s parent company appointed Ms. Raisibe as its Group Chief Financial Officer, as well as executive director on its board. Initially, she was the Group Chief Finance Officer (CFO) at Nedbank since 2009.

Ms. Raisibe is a chartered accountant (SA) and has completed an Advanced Management Program (AMP) with INSEAD (Finance). She holds a Higher Diploma in Taxation from Wits University and is currently pursuing a Masters in Philosophy (Corporate Strategy at GIBS.

Safaricom also named Mr. Dilip Pal as an alternate director to Safaricom’s CEO, Mr. Peter Ndegwa following Mr. Dilip’s appointment as Safaricom’s Chief Finance Officer (CFO) with effect from November 1, 2020.

Mr.Dilip served as CFO at both DTAC, Thailand, and Grameenphone Bangladesh. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Goenka College of Commerce, alongside a Masters in Commerce from Calcutta University.

The new changes in the board, according to Safaricom are aimed at streamlining services at Kenya’s largest telco as it soldiers in a new path after celebrating 2 decades of being in Kenya and leading the markets as well as changing lives.

Safaricom will be releasing its financial results next week. Market analysts have predicted that the move by the central bank of Kenya to impose free mobile transactions for 1000 shillings and below may have an impact on Safaricom’s results next week.

M-PESA has been the largest driver of Safaricom’s finances. The product has managed to bring more than 29 million Kenyans on board and has played a major role in enhancing financial inclusion among Kenyans.

Safaricom remains the largest taxpayer to the Kenyan government and one of the largest companies that have both directly and indirectly impacted Kenyans through various initiatives.
