Two Ministers in Malawi died on the same day after contracting Covid-19 in what the President has termed as a national disaster.
The two senior ministers died on Tuesday as the pandemic continues to spread across the country. The President of Malawi has declared three days of national mourning.
“His Excellency the President has directed that there be a three-day period of national mourning from 12th to 14th during which all National Flags shall flat half-mast,” read the statement from President Lazarus Chakwera.
Currently, Malawi has recorded 9,027 cases of Covid-19. The President has declared the pandemic a national disaster and called on citizens to be vigilant.
Malawi is the third poorest country in Sub-Saharan Africa and one that is riddled with a high infant mortality rate. While taking over power, Lazarus Chakwera promised to alleviate the residents from the chains of poverty.
But the second wave of Covid-19 seems to be taking a heavy toll on the already poor country.

Africa has not been hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic as most western countries expected. In fact, some like Mr. Bill Gates has been loudly wondering why the cases were so low.
The only country that seems to be struggling with the pandemic in South Africa. With over a million infections, the country seems to be at crossroads on what step to take next.
The President of South African banned all public gatherings as well as people visiting the beaches but South Africans have often defied the orders.
In Kenya, cases have been dropping with each passing day. Although the Ministry of Health says the curve is flattening, we all know it is a lie. The reason we have fewer cases is that fewer tests are being carried out.
With the kids back in school, all we can do is hope and pray.
