Why Teaching Is A Noble Profession In Kenya

Teachers

Kenya has over 337,432 teachers employed and working under the Teachers Service Commission (TSC). All teachers employed under the TSC teach in various public schools across the country said to be about 10,000 primary and secondary schools.

Teachers who teach in private schools are expected to register with the TSC and issued with a TSC number. There are many other trained teachers who are still looking for meaningful employment.

Despite the fact Kenya has so many teachers, people haven’t stopped training for the profession. Each year, institutions of higher learning are ever emitting graduates who train as teachers, set and ready to be deployed when an opportunity occurs.

Teaching in Kenya is still among the noble professions that command respect, especially in the rural areas. In most Kenyan rural areas, teachers are more famous and well known than the Nyumba Kumi elder because of the great contribution they offer to societies.

Teachers are tasked with the hard task of turning boys into men and girls into great women in society. They are gods who create and mold brains while instilling various careers and professions among many learners. The world would never be without teachers.

In Kenya, being a teacher under the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) attracts such packs as a monthly salary as well as a monthly retirement package when they reach the retirement age. A TSC teacher also can get a loan more easily than any other person.

All teachers employed under TSC have an insurance cover under Minet Kenya that covers all their medical expenses, including being treated outside the country including some of their family members.

With the Covid-19 pandemic, and with such high costs of treatment in the event one contracts the virus, teachers under TSC have every reason to smile as those who get infected with the virus are treated under the medical cover.

To ensure that teachers’ medical expenses are covered in the event they contract Covid-19, TSC has negotiated with Minet Kenya to cover all the teachers who will seek treatment for the virus.

“We are also working closely with the Ministry of Health (MoH) to provide psycho-social support to teachers that may be in need of the services owing to the Covid-19 pandemic,” said TSC in a statement.
