Tough times beckon for households across the country as commodity prices are expected to continue rising amidst declines in the supply of fresh and dry items.
A 90-kilogram bag of a white cowpeas is currently retailing at 6,800 shillings in Nairobi. In Kitale, a 90-kilogram bag of white cowpeas is retailing at 8,000 shillings which is cheaper than Nairobi.
Kisumu has the highest price as a 90 kilogram retailing at 9,200 shillings while Nakuru and Isiolo the price of white cowpeas are going for 8,100 shillings and 8000 shillings respectively. Eldoret has the lowest price as a 90 kilogram going for 7,000 shillings.
Eldoret has a relatively high price of dry green peas which is retailing at the price of 6,120 shillings per every 90 kilograms while Kisumu has the lowest as a 90 kilogram going at 2,700 shillings.
In Nairobi, a 90-kilogram bag of dry green peas is retailing at 4,845 which is much cheaper than Mombasa. In Mombasa, the price of a 90-kilogram bag of dry peas retails at 6,000 shillings as well as Malindi.
Nakuru, the price of a 90-kilogram bag of dry green peas is retailing at 4,500. The price is much lower as compared to other towns like Kajiado where a 90-kilogram bag is retailing at 5,500 shillings.
A 90-kilogram bag of finger millet is being sold at 7,500 shillings in Nairobi, 6,750 shillings in Mombasa, 7,600 in Kisumu, and 7,600 in Eldoret.
Kakamega registered the lowest prices as a 90-kilogram bag of finger millet retails at 4,000 shillings followed by Kitale at 4,500 shillings. Malindi has the highest price where a 90-kilogram bag goes at 8,100 shillings.
