Nairobi County Assembly has suspended its sittings indefinitely after 40 Members of the County Assembly tested positive for the deadly Covid-19. Six of the MCAs are hospitalized while two are on a life-support machine fighting for their lives.
“I now propose to suspend Tuesday and Thursday sittings and any other sittings as may arise, like committees, will be done virtually. The clerk of the assembly is requested to facilitate all virtual committee meetings,” said Speaker Benson Mutura.
More than 30 MCAs are battling the virus at their homes according to the Majority Leader Abdi Guyo at the Assembly. He is the one who moved the motion of adjournment saying the matter was getting out of hand.
Disease infested area
President Uhuru Kenyatta declared the counties of Nairobi, Kajiado, Kiambu, Nakuru, and Machakos as disease-infested areas and announced a cessation of movement in and out of the 5 counties. The partial lockdown is indefinite.
The President had also called upon the county assemblies, the Senate, and the National Assembly to suspend their sittings to cut down on the spread of the pandemic. He also suspended any form of gathering as well as church services in the 5 counties.

The third wave
The Covid-19 third wave seems to be hitting Kenya hard with more than 200 patients now being in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The Ministry of Health says the country has run out of ICU space and called on Kenyans to be careful.
The number of cases has been rising with each passing day. Kenyans, however, seem to have given up on the Covid-19 protocols.
