The Ministry of Education used 1.89 billion shillings to purchase desks. The desks were to be supplied to various schools around the country.
The education CS Professor George Magoha stated that the project was aimed at improving the schools’ infrastructure, amidst the Covid-19 pandemic. There were concerns that cash allocated for the project had been stolen.
More than 600,000 desks were produced by artisans. The desks were supplied to public primary and secondary schools in all 47 counties according to Professor Geroge Magoha.
Most primary schools received 70 desks each while secondary schools received 50 lockers and chairs. The ministry stated that a total of 5,136 primary schools and 5,254secondary schools benefited from the program.
The president encouraged the ministry to utilize the Jua Kali sector. “The program will support the improvement of school infrastructure, including the acquisition of locally fabricated desks in order to get thousands of our graduates off the bench and into action while local artisans and builders’ businesses are supported,” said President Kenyatta while introducing the program.
The Programme was developed by President. This stimulates economic growth and cushion families and companies during the pandemic.
