Kenyans can now send money comfortably to many recipients via the new M-PESA App. The app allows one to send cash to up to 5 people at the same time.
The ability to send cash to more than one recipient at a go is something many businesses and employers have been waiting for.
This will help many businesses who make multiple payments to key in several numbers and make the payment at a go.
However, the feature is only available to those who use iOS. Safaricom has not made it clear as to when it will be available for Android users.
“All the same, this is a great step. For years, we have been asking for an M-PESA app. It is great that Safaricom listened and made this happen,” said Jose Korir, an SME at Mlolongo, Machakos County.
“I have already downloaded the app. It is great in sorting out suppliers,” he added.
The new app is an interesting one. It is totally different from the normal mySafaricom App. The M-PESA App focuses on M-PESA only. This is what Kenyans have been asking for.

Although still in the “testing” stage, the app is available for download for anyone who wishes to use it. So far, it works just fine and Kenyans have warmed towards it.
Kenyans already using the app say it works fast and it is easy to navigate. They, however, feel more features need to be integrated such as KCB-MPesa among others.
They also want the feature to send cash to many users to be available on Android too. “If Safaricom is serious about this thing (app), others will never catch up,” says Alice Naikuni, a businesswoman in Nairobi.
The statement: the app is able to tell you all the amount you have transacted over a period of time that you will choose, a month. A user can see their monthly transaction at a glance on the screen. This, users say will help them manage their finances and spending.
Not tied to SIM card: Safaricom seems to have realized that tying the app to a SIM card limits its operations. The MPESA is not tied to the card and hence can be used anywhere in the world. Your SIM does not need to be in slot 1 either as it is for the other app.
Sending cash to multiple recipients: this feature is still being rolled out. Marked “coming soon”. This will enable one key in various numbers and send cash at once instead of one by one. This will be great for those paying salaries.
Growth tab: this feature is also coming soon. It might feature things like Safaricom Mali that is also at a trial stage. This is to enable customers to invest in such ventures as unit trusts. It might also feature other investments outside Safaricom.
Discover and Spend Tab: discover helps one know the bundles on offer while spend helps one know the things he or she has to spend the cash on. It basically gives you a “reason” for your cash moving out. This helps one plan for the finances too.
Fingerprint: the app has an amazing feature where one can access the app using a fingerprint. At the same time, one can authorize sending of cash by the use of a fingerprint.
Offline mode: the app can also be used offline when making basic payments without needing the internet.
