Maisha Magic actor Gillie Owino, popularly known as Mzee Msiri on Pete will be greatly missed on our screens following his demise.
The 63-year-old theatre TV and film director, actor, and the writer will be remembered for the many plays he staged at Mombasa’s Little Theatre Club and Kenya National Theatre in Nairobi.
Owino was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Sanaa Theatre Awards in 2018 because of the immense contribution to the industry.
“It is deeply saddening to hear about the loss of Mzee Msiri. Through his role, he inspired many young actors and kept many families entertained while acting on Pete. We will remember Mzee Msiri not only as a talented actor but also for the significant contribution he made to the country’s entertainment industry throughout his career. We greatly appreciate his time with us,” said Timothy Okwaro, M-Net director for East and Southern channels.
Mzee Msiri was on set this week but on Thursday his condition worsened, and he was rushed to hospital. He however died on Friday around 4.00 pm while receiving treatment at a Mombasa hospital.

The funeral for the legendary actor is next week, Saturday in Seme, Kisumu. He was married, had 5 kids – 3 boys, 2 girls.
